Intercontinental Sanya Resort by WOHA
Designed as a patchwork of gardens: sky gardens, water gardens, walled courtyard gardens and orchid gardens.
Found object artist Edouard Martinet makes amazing sculptures of insects and animals from pieces he picks up at flea markets and car boot sales.
Ants are Amazing!
Besides being incredibly tough for their size, they are also amazingly sociable!
They can come together to make bridges or sacrifice themselves as a raft/water bridge for the benefit of the colony! Or even work together to take down a threat like a spider!
They even farm Aphids!! FARMING! they use their antennae to make the Aphids release Honeydew, essentially, the ants milk the aphiids! Some species of ants even store aphid eggs over the winter and then hatch them once its over! They’ll even fight of aphid predators! They also do this in a simliar way with some Fungi species!
How awesome is that?!
And their colonies! They are so well designed, it is tantamount to an underground city, with specific quarters, sections, etc. with various connecting tunnels!
I swear, if Humans never evolved and the oxygen content (see here) of the air stayed the same as it was 2.5 billion years ago, Ants would be the dominant species on the planet, building megacities!
One of many reasons chameleons are such cool creatures. by igor siwanowicz
“the garden is simply spectacular. The mature, fully-landscaped rooftop spreads over 1,600 square feet on multiple levels with fascinating architectural elements, making for intimate seating areas, sensory dining opportunities and infinite possibilities for entertaining. A rare, sensory retreat in the heart of the city.”
I love plants and I love cities. A garden like this would be paradise for me
